When Detective Fabré had left yesterday, he’d said nothing to Jen about what would happen next. He’d said nothing at all, really. Now, twenty-four hours later, she was feeling stressed out.
It had been another fraught drive into the city, taking Sean to work, and without knowing what was going on, her nerves were fraying. Although she was feeling better every day, she still had no appetite. But now it was worry that was giving her butterflies.
Back at home and wandering through the empty house, unable to settle, she wondered what she should do next. She thought about calling Detective Fabré, but decided it was too soon. Hers was not the only case he was working on; it was probably not even his chief priority. Patience was not a virtue she possessed right now, but it was the only option she had, she decided.
After making some tea and grabbing her book, she curled up in a chair by the fire. The hot tea and cozy ambience calmed her down to where, after an hour of reading, she dozed off. She woke to the notification sound on her phone. It was a text message from Helen.
