Love to Hatred Turned: Scene 36

Sean was enjoying the view from his office window. Although it was fall, the sun was shining, reflecting off the mirrored glass of the surrounding buildings, casting the downtown core in a golden light. It was late morning, on a Friday, so the traffic was lighter than normal in the street below.

And it was an excellent morning for him. He’d just come from a meeting with Dave Pritchard — a discussion about whether Sean was ready to increase his hours to full time. In Sean’s mind, there was no question. He was champing at the bit to get his old life back.

Dave’s concern was that the doctor hadn’t signed off on it, but Sean assured him it was fine; he wasn’t really under care now that there were no more check-in appointments with Dr McDonald. Dave had finally agreed, after Sean pointed out that, with an extensive project coming up, the department could really use the help. The change would begin on Monday.

As he still couldn’t drive, and as much as it galled him, Sean would take the bus to work. He never thought he would be glad to do so, but he hated depending on anyone, and with Jennifer — doubly so. She was getting on his nerves. He’d had to take time off because of her; she was unreliable. The last couple of days had been the clincher — two days of driving in sulking, stony silence.
