On Monday morning, Sean was looking forward to work and some semblance of normalcy for him. His weekend had been the pits. He’d barely slept and knew he looked like shit. But at least at the office he was comfortable, everything familiar. He could get a decent cup of coffee without going out to buy it.

All weekend, he’d been trying to come up with a way forward, without going along with Jennifer. He didn’t want to give her what she wanted — on principle, more than anything. But no other options presented themselves.

He’d tried to take his frustrations out on the driving range, and also kill a few hours outside of his crappy hotel room. It only made him more angry in the end. The rented clubs ruined all his shots and constantly reminded him that his perfectly customized set was a mere five-minute drive away.

All the little details of his new circumstance niggled at him. Even now, on his commute, he had to take a different route, as the hotel was on the opposite side of town. That he had to make do with only the clothes that he had packed. Could he ask his lawyer to help him get into the house, at least, to get more of his stuff? Oh, wait… Note to self: hire a new lawyer — first thing!
