It took Jen a while to get to the park-and-ride on the outskirts of the city, where she had left her car. Still, it was only the middle of the afternoon when she pulled into her driveway. As the garage door rolled up, it surprised her to see Sean’s car there. What the hell is he doing home at this time?

Her stomach dropped at this unexpected turn of events. If Sean was still in a temper, she could step into uncharted territory. That he had never been violent didn’t mean that he never would, especially if she kept pushing — like with the evidence from the private investigator. Jen considered putting the car into reverse and leaving. But to go where?

No, she had to face this, deal with it. As she parked the car, she took a couple of deep breaths and tried to collect her thoughts. Opening the door to the house, she half-expected Sean to be standing there, waiting. But there was no sign of him. She quickly checked the kitchen and living room. Not there either.

She stopped to listen for him moving around, but could hear nothing. Surmising that he was in his room or in the office, she wasn’t about to go hunting him down in either place. Her best plan was to do the same — retreat to her room. That would buy her some time to come up with a plan.
